Beverly Hills Surgical Institute and Allied Surgical Centers Management Company — Allied Surgical Centers Management was a Management Service Organization (MSO) that operated a number of medical corporations, including the Beverly Hills Surgical Institute. Mr. Jastrebski was brought in as COO for this company, the largest cosmetic surgery group of its type in California and perhaps the U.S., to integrate operations across all of the company's Ambulatory Surgery Centers, its pharmacy operations, and its corporate operations.
Founded in 1997, at the time of his joining the company it employed 190 staff including 48 world recognized physicians and surgeons, but was operating with negative cash flow and incurring excessive debt. Mr. Jastrebski’s remit was to address both financial issues as well as market, management, medical, and organizational matters relating to the company’s rapid growth.
With 28 medical corporations operating under the control of a single MSO, 13 medical departments from plastic and reconstructive surgery to podiatry, obstetrics, pain management, gastroenterology & endoscopy, thoracic surgery, chiropractology, and more, the entire organization had become unwieldy and difficult to manage. Mr. Jastrebski quickly realized that his task was to build a pathway to help the company transition from a series of disparate legal and operational medical centers to an organization that would treat each regional facility as a strategic business unit (hub) operating as a “virtual hospital.” To accomplish this he implemented automated process management to control patient and workflow activities, began the digitization of patient records, built, staffed, trained and integrated a customer facing patient concern center staffed with patient advisors, and integrated the doctors into the entire process. By the time he left he had significantly reorganized the company, cut costs, and helped increase revenues to $68+ million. He also reduced staffing by 18%, added a financing arm, and cross-licensed the corporation’s brand and image to partners in Asia.
